Zack: Nice shot. I agree with Jeremy, the rocks draw you deep into the picuture. The motion that is conveyed here is powerful. I would sure like to visit this site.
I didn't make it to the falls. It started raining pretty hard so I turned back early. The water level is pretty low though, I'm sure if you wanted to you could make it all the way back.
Both versions have their strengths Zack. I can't decide...maybe this one, due to the way the rocks lead you in.
Kevin and I made it all the way back about a month ago...it was waist deep for me...which would be about to your knees on you, John! lol...It's worth it though. It's one of my favorite falls in the gorge...but I think this one is best when the falls are at a trickle, in October...
Really nice shot. I might also like a composition cropping the bottom just above the big rock in the llc. It leaves plenty of river, and repeats a bunch of round-ish rocks at the base of the frame. I really like this portrait version since it emphasizes the narrowness and height of the gorge (but I haven't seen the landscape version).
Best regards,
-Brett

Interesting Idea Brett, this is an interesting version. I still like the original, but this works well too I think.
Both very nice! I think I agree with Ned though... I tend to be drawn in more by the second one. my only nit is the whites are a little too cyanish... Is that a word?
I like the original best, too. The composition in the 1st one is a little more asymmetric and that rock punctuates the arc of rocks across the water. Awsome shot!

I'm liking this quite a lot. My only suggestion would be to cut the glare on the foreground rocks a little with a polarizer.
I give it two thumbs up as it sits.
