Taken at Cemlyn Bay yesterday evening. Both adults were actively feeding their youngster and I've added other images on my site with an adult well stuffed with tidbits for the fledgling. Unfortunately the youngster decided he preferred to be well buried in the gorse so most images of it are obscured, but there is always tomorrow :)

Canon 1D MkII N
Canon 600f4 IS USM + EFIIx1.4TC
Canon 580EX with stofen diffuser in hi-sync mode
Full frame, iso 200 raw 1/250sec@f16 manual
Processed in C1 Pro and CS2, although all I've done is set the levels, resized and sharpened.

Hi Kevin

Not easy to get shots of these and you have done well with this one. A slight head turn would have improved the image and the BG although perfectly OOF - the colour does not help the bird 'pop'

Very nice Kevin - I too would prefer the head turned more towards the viewer. Lovely light and background.

Well done for getting a clear and unobstructed view and the size of the bird within the frame works for me,good neutral background colour too.
I think this is very nearly there but is unfortunatly let down by the head angle,if you could have got a few feet to your right,and/or the bird turned it's head slightly towards you then this would have made all the difference.

Out of interest what made you choose to use the omni-bounce,I would have thought it wouldn't have any benefit particularly with flash used as fill and at f16 @ 840mm.
Surely it would only be a diadvantage by cutting the flashes range?

The stofen diffuser tends to live on my 580ex gun and I rarely take it off. When I'm wandering around I also leave the gun in Hi-sync mode so I can use the shutter speeds I want rather than be limited to 1/250 or less. The gun is only used for catchlights and occasionally to dig a bird out a bush :)

The next frame is the one you are all talking about with the right head turn but I lost the light on the side of the face :(

Thanks for explaining Kevin,
I also tend to leave the Stofen on,but mostly when the flash is in the bag, takes up a bit less room in the bag and leaves another nook and cranny available for something else
