Paint Mines Image
Thanks to a number of you who have posted outstanding images from the Paint Mines near Calhan, CO, my wife and I made the trip there yesterday.

We did not camp, and opted to leave at 4 am. It took just over 1.5 hours to get there.

The early start didn't help that much because we missed the turn off to the main formnations and hiked on top of the ridge above the formations. That turned out to be a nice hike though, and we watched lark buntings skylarking above the prairie and landing on blooming yucca.

I have attached an intimate landscape of the formations. Although I also shot the colored formations, I liked the way the light added texture to this area.

Thanks to all who pointed the way to this very cool location!

Good stuff Dave. I really like the mix of sun and shadow. Well balanced. his kind of reminds me of the Wheeler Geologic area a bit.

Hey I like this, it has a motion to it that is hard to explain, but nice all in all.

Neat shot Dave - I like the maze off unique shapes. Having not been there what is the approximate scale - 4 ft tall formations or 20 ft tall?
