The alkili desert at the foot of Oregon's Steens range, captured in late March. So far the best light show I've seen this year! I posted a similar, landscape version on the main forums quite a while ago. I think this one may be the stronger image of the two.
Wow, what a beautiful place! While I think both are excellent, I think the lanscape version portrays the scene better. Did you use any fliters on this, and what if you did? I am aways curious about the use of filters.
I used a 3-stop hard Singh-Ray grad filter for both images. The landscape version is in my portfolio here if anyone else is interested in comparing the two.

I have to agree, the landscape version is the stronger image. What an incredible sky show that was, wow!

Fantastically beautiful, Mark...that sky is totally to die for! :)
The detail you've managed to bring out in the back mountains, shooting into such bright light...it's almost magical itself. Those are sure some freaky deaky clouds man! I'll throw my vote for the first one.
Both great shots. I like the comp in the landscape version better but the colors in both versions keeps me looking. The foreground detail is interesting but the clouds and color brings the image alive.

Rick, yeah. If it weren't for that snow, the tops of the mountains would have been very difficult to expose.

I like the way the swath of grass leads me to the brush which then branches out to present the mountains and sky.
