I recently returned from 10 days in the gorge and surroundings. Though I've been there many times, I never get tired of this magnificent area.
I spent 2 days shooting & exploring before my workshop started. We had great light ( cloudy & rainy weather most of the time. My participants got to shoot most of the "icons" of the area, in great light.
While I don't usually shoot much while conducting workshops, I did find myself shooting more of the wildflowers, trees, streams, a lot of macro etc. instead of the falls and all of the grand scenics that were right there in front of me. There so much to photography that sometimes I just need to slow myself down and take in all thats usually within 20' of where i am standing.
After the workshop, I headed up to BC for a few days, but came back to the gorge for a great 2 days before heading home.
Since the was my 1st totally digital trip, having to export files, backup files etc every night, made for long days. The technology is pretty awesome, but time consuming. Now I have a few hundred images to edit.
You "natives" and members of the PNWNP are to be commended for not only contributing many new views of the falls, and surrounding areas but for knowing and understanding the value of where you live. I am always impressed with the passion you all exhibit here on your site.
My wife is originally from the Seattle area and soon ( maybe a few years) we plan to relocate to the Portland area. We both love it.
I hope you don't mind this Ohio resident ( temporally I hope) to join in from time to time!
Welcome Jack! We're glad to have your participation... the only thing is, you're supposed to post cruddy shots if you're from Ohio... This image just doesn't qualify...
Nah, seriously, this is nice work. I saw a bunch of these Sunday when I was in the Mt Adams area, but I didn't stop to shoot them... That drop of water really adds a nice finishing touch to this.
Nice Tiger Lily, Jack.
Yeah, it sure is nice here. From where I am in Hood River right now, I can go east to the high desert, west to the rain forest and coast, north or south to peaks higher than ten thousand feet, all in less than an hour or two. Life doesn't suck.
Glad you and your participants had a good time here - the gorge is an awesome place - we're very lucky to have this treasure so close to us. If you are going to move to the Portland area, I'd do it sooner rather than later. We moved here last year, housing prices have jumped a bit but not to the levels of any other major city on the West coast. Portland truly is the last place with "almost realistic" housing prices, but they keep going up
Which is fine with us now that we're here
Nice Tiger Lily shot by the way - it's a little tight on the left side, but that dew drop does even it out.. Awesome colors.
Jack,
You are right about looking down instead of at the obvious. Your shot here proves it. The Gorge is full of alot more than just Falls, rocks and moss. Thanks for the kind words.

Great to have you contributing, especially with gems like this. I love the orange and green in this one.
Hey Jack! We do have quite an awesome group, dont we? I dont think I could live in a place where I had to take pictures of bottle caps or fruit all the time...we're lucky to have such diverse conditions surrounding us...
I saw and shot some of these little babies too, but I like your angle best here. Perhaps a tad tight on the left side, but a very attractive image nontheless.
Maybe I'll try hooking up on one of your group outings!. I let my wife read your responses and maybe we might move our timeline up a bit!
Thanks folks.
