Views like this can be found throughout the Cascade range in the coming months. This one is from one of the most ruggedly beautiful places in the NW, Sahale Arm above Cascade Pass, in North Cascades National park. Sahale Peak (which I later solo-climbed) can be seen strait ahead across the glacial valley and turqoise lake below. Alpine Heather compliments the landscape in the foreground. This is one from the archives - EOS-3, Fuji Velvia, 17-40, grad or combination of grads + polarizer.
This isn't Oregon, John. It's in far Northern Washington in the North Cascades National Park. The North Cascades are the most impressive of any mountain range in the NW, but very rugged and inaccessable. The mountains look nothing like the volcanos throughout the Cascades and much more like the Rockies. There are only a handful of trails in the huge park. 95% of travel is off trail - I know from a variety of climbs I've done in the area. Shown here is one of the most popular regions.
North Cascades National Park is voted by National Geographic magazine in their top 10 most beautiful and unspoilt national parks of North America. As Marc says, its mostly because of the rugged conditions of the park which make it inaccesible to most tourists. I'd love to go there sometime when I can get time off my work.
