hey fellas, as a soon-to-be transplant to the PNW, i was wondering if there are any photography books out there that you'd recommend i pick up to start learning about the photographic opportunities in the PNW. with so many amazing spots to shoot, the PNW can be a bit overwhelming to a newly transplanted photographer. i'm looking specifically for landscape photography, as i don't shoot much wildlife or architecture.
hey richie... i'm moving to portland. if things go as planned, i should definately be there in time to meet up with you. shoot me an email off the forum and we'll get things worked out.
looks like we're going to have a little CNP get together in the PNW!!

Welcome in advance to Portland.....
I just recently picked up a couple books at barnes and noble called Waterfall lovers guide to the Pacific Northwest and Oregon Hiking...so far both books have been very helpful and once you are in the PDX area you will be amazed at how much fun/time you will have photographing all the different falls in the area!!

Scott, this forum is a great place to see photos of what is happening in the different locations. So of course, stick around here
I have heard many positive comments on the Waterfall Lovers guide to the Pacific Northwest. I don't have that book but use this web site for reviews and driving instructions to waterfalls:
I do own a couple of helpful books. A Falcon Guide on Hiking Oregons Mount Hood & Badger Creek Wilderness has been very helpful to learn the area.
I also purchased "Best Hikes with Children" "Western & Central Oregon for going places and hiking with my family. Lots of easy hikes that my 5 year old can do with us.
On one that has nothing to do with PNW but still gives me lots of food for thought is Galen Rowell's "The Inner Game of Outdoor Photography" has lots of food for thought on many photography subjects that I'm re-reading for like the 4th time...
Let us know when you're here - lots of us do outings with other PNW members - myself included
Go to www.powells.com and look in the regional or hiking section. We are new transplants also and have found this to be a great source for places to photograph. Then do as we did and just go out and drive around. You will be amazed at the diversity of topographic features just waiting to be photographed.
