I am considering purchasing the D200. Does it have mirror lockup? I thought I noticed on Nikon's website before that it does, but when checking today I saw no mention of a mirror lockup. Thanks for any replys.

I just purchased mine, and I love it! It does have mirror lockup. An easy dial on the top of the camera body allows you to select mirror lockup, timer, and other functions. In mirror lockup mode, you depress the shutter, and depress again within 30 seconds (I think) to expose the image. I find that the second time the shutter is pressed, you still get some camera shake, so I'm hoping you can use this function with a remote release (don't see why you could'nt). I just have to purchase either a remote control or a cable release. I've been very pleased with the camera so far.

Thanks for your replies Alice and John. I was beginning to wonder if in fact I did see that the D200 has mirror lockup. It is good to know that I am not losing my mind. :jump:

Yes the corded remote works fine. There's really not much of a point in using mirror lock up without a remote.

I used to use the self timer on my old olympus kit to trigger mirror lock up , I have a vague idea that self timer and mirror lock up isn't possible on the D200.Am stuck using remote release on the D70 which doesnt have mirror lock up so tend to avoid "medium " shutter speeds if poss.

Self timer and mirror lock up can't be used together on the D200. However, there is a shutter delay setting you could use with the self timer. Like in the D100, the shutter fires after a slight delay for the mirror to flip up.

I don't have nor can I find a MC-20 cord so I do what Rod mentioned above with the exposure delay mode. This mode locks up the mirror a second before the shutter fires, I think it locks the mirror a tad longer than on the D100. Shooting Menu > Shooting/Display > Exp. Delay Mode (d5).

Hey John, have you figured out how to use the wireless remote in bulb mode? I have found that you have to put the remote in C mode and hold down the button during the duration of the shot. On the D70 you could click once to open the shutter and click again to shut. This is not the case with the D200. Have you found any other way to do this?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am not a big fan of using the timer as to much can happen during that delay before the shutter trips. I have the MC-20 remote which I use with the F5 and I believe it works with the D200.

SWEET! Ed you made my day.. I was going under the assumption that my MC-20 would have to be sold with my F5, that it would not work with my D200....I'm a happy guy... :)
