Female Mallard in Flight
Sorry I haven't replied to many of the images posted for a while but I have been very busy with work and also I have been working on two long term projects involving Badgers and Water Voles. This image was taken a couple of Days ago at the Water Vole sight, the bird is a bit central but when ducks explode from the water it is so fast, I could crop it but I think the water spray adds to the picture.

Canon EOS 1D MkII, 500mm Lens, F4, 1/1000, ISO Rating 200

Thanks for looking

Another stunning image - and congrats on the article in AP -your floating hide look like it took ages to make - but certainly did the business!

Hello Danny
Sorry, but can't agree with the other guys, I think it is excellent as is, and the water droplets just finish it off nicely.
Best wishes

Excellent shot.
Impressive sharpness and the light looks nice too.
Background works great with the 2/3 - 1/3 split of blue and green.
The centered composition works fine for me,particularly because of the included water drops.

Hi Danny,

The light, colours and sharpness of this image are outstanding. Position and size in the frame look good to me. Would you mind posting exposure and WB settings please?

Regards

Rob

I've dreamed of getting a shot like this for many years, have photographed ducks taking off away from me or landing side on or head on, even caught a tufted duck whiffling right over my head once but never been able to catch a duck taking off head on to me..

Super shot Danny

PS. enjoyed v. much your 2 recent articles in AP

Hello Rob

I always have my camera set to Auto White Balance and on shots that are pretty neutral always under expose by 1/3 of a stop.

Larry I too have always wanted a shot like this, on this occaision this female gave me plenty of warning and the wind direction was spot on.
