Tricolored Heron High Island, TX
First a little business, thanks to all of the forum members for the nice comments and constructive criticism on my post of the Petit Jean Sunrise.

I seem to spend a lot of time working with bird photography, so I thought a Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor) would be a good selection for this post. I shot this a few weeks ago at the rookery at High Island, TX.

Thanks,

Dick

I really like the comp here Dick. Very good dof and super bg which I am sure is the result of a nice long lens. Love the pose and the eye is very sharp. Though I'm not well versed in avian identification it's easy to see where the tricolor gets its name. Very nice shot, thanks for posting!

Thanks for the nice comments, Wayne. You are right, it was a long lens, a Canon 600mm f/4 on a D20. The High Island rookery is a popular place and nice because you are about 75 to 100 feet from the birds. Predetors and photographers are kept from getting any closer by gators in the water between the viewing areas and island where the birds nest.

Thanks again,

Dick

What a beautiful image Dick - nice soft light and color, and tack sharp aroung the eye and bill. Excellent work, thanks for sharing!

This is really great, Dick. Avian stuff always stirs me up. It's very difficult and requires A LOT of patience. Wonderful Comp, light, BG, and timing to boot. Thanks for sharing.

Really incredible, Dick. Beautiful subject, and the composition is great! You found some great light for this one, too - everything is just right. Thanks for posting!
