Red-backed Shrike

Nikon D2X, Nikkor 20-35mm f/2.8

Did lots with a 500mm but then thought I'd try something different with the red-backed shrike so used a wide angle to try and get some of the French landscape in the image as well as the bird.

Nice result and shows the habitat well too. I think we all get too hung up on filling the frame sometimes! :toast:

I agree, nice result! I find the sky in the upper left a bit distracting, but I'm sure that could be remedied with some ps work if you're into that sort of thing!

Impressive to get so close, was this a tethered set up or just a friendly bird? A refreshing shot for sure.

Good to see something different-i think there is a dust speck in the sky area :toast:

How the hell did you get so close? Did you disguise yourself as an insect? An amazing achievement. Well done...

That 'super glue' works well - cracking shot!

A very good idea, but if it had a better landscape behind it it could have been a cracker.

Great to get as close as this though

Amazing, being able to get so close. Love the shot of the bird but I, too, feel that the sky detracts from the image and could possibly be cloned out?

Hello John
I like as is, I think the sky complements it nicely. Lovely image and nice for being different.
Best wishes
