Went up to Lake Isabelle in Indian Peaks Wilderness this morning. The conditions are pretty good for photography right now with quite a bit of snow left on the mountains and landscape. There is also some nice snow run-off providing significant moving water at the lake's outlet.
For those who haven't been there, it is a really nice sunrise location, which unfortunately means getting up pretty early! The hike in is 3 miles (can't yet park at regular trailhead which shortens the hike to around 2 miles).
Anyway, I've attached an image I thought folks might enjoy of a small waterfall near the lake's outlet with a silhouette of the fool who got up at 2:15AM! - Kipp
Cool shot, Kipp. I really like this time of year when it's warm enough to have the snow and ice melting away up there, but the road isn't yet open - helps keep the crowds thin. Then again, a 2:15 am wakeup call...oof. Looks like it was worth the effort, though!
After seeing your photo and reading some info on Lake Isabelle I decided to venture up there this past weekend with my 5 y.o. son. It is truly an incredible place. There is so much to see there this time of the year - waterfalls, cascades, alpine lakes, snowy jagged peaks, and the wildflowers which are now blooming. There is a lot of snow melt off which really keeps the area moist.
I don't know if the flowers are peaking yet (I am no flower expert), but there was a least 10-12 different types.
There was also a really nice looking waterfall of in the distance just west of Lake Isabelle which I wanted to check out. But my son was to tired to go there. For an area so close to Denver is was really uncrowded while we were hiking in the early AM. On the other hand the parking area was packed by the were leaving around noon.

Thanks for the tip, just posted it over there as well.

Good to see you around the forum. Been a while. Are you a little surprised that we haven't run into each other out in the woods lately? HA!
Thanks so much for this post.
