While city-seeing or typical travel shoot carrying my main CF tripod make not much sense. For landscapes I can take time to setup. However, for travel shoot I need something lighter which I may use at twilight or at night.
So what do you recommend?
It has to be around 1 kg.
Max height is not a problem. I can bend a bit as number of shots taken using tripod will be less, but folded length is an important factor. It will be stowed for a longer time in backpack.
It should support about 2 Kgs. (light body and prime or small zoom)
Prefer removable head.
Thanks for your time,
PS: I know the Robert Segels tripod survey link. It is 4-5 yrs old, there must have been better tripods available in the mean time.

If you want to spend the money, here's exactly what you specified:
My travel/backpacking tripod is a Gitzo 1127. For its weight, it is quite stable. I have even used it with my Arca 4x5, a pretty big camera. I would not want to do it on a regular basis, but it worked fine. The 1127 has a hook under the center column. I carry a mesh bag and fill it with rocks when it is windy. Adds a lot of stabilization.
I think the CF tripods are worth it. I compared my CF Gitzo 1325 to my old Gitzo aluminum 1320. The 1320 outweighs the 1325 by a lot. The 1325 is far better at absorbing vibration and is therefore much more stable. The difference was quite significant. Never tried the basalts however.
