sweet magnolia *added color ver.*
Taking a little break here at my sister's house, I decided to try my hand at one of the blossoms of this huge magnolia tree she has blooming in the front yard. The fragrance of these are unlike any I've experienced, and the blooms are quite large.

Beautifully soft. The B&W is perfect for this.

Very nice Ned,

Advice on how you did the conversion?

Ned, we can add 'Flower Master' to 'Water Master' on your photographic resume.

Hi - thank you...

On this I converted to B&W using Photokit with its 1/2 green filter. I used the same program to add a 50 ISO film grain look, as well as its center clear blur filter, +1 intensity. There was also a little bit of overall brightness reduction and contrast addition. I shot this on my sister's office floor - straight down with my Gitzo 1325 at full extension, standing on a chair. It was right at minimum focus distance for the 70-200. It is also in a vase, and is on a 20x30 sheet of black foam core board.

Really beautiful - Great idea to use black foam core for the bg.

The detail is something else, Ned. I like it.

Ned, you nailed it. The texture on the petals and leaves is just awesome.

How did you light it?

Thanks for the comments! Sean, I used just whatever natural daylight was coming through the windows.. it wasn't really direct, and there wasn't much of it. Here is the color version...
