Anyone been to Kangasala, Finland for Osprey's?
I have a trip planned to Finland next week and have brought it forward a few days so I can go to Kangasala to photograph the Osprey's fishing.

Has anybody been to the Osprey Centre? If so....

How close are the hides to the area they fish? What lens do you need? I have seen pictures taken from centre, they look quite close???

Any other advice??

Thanks in advance

Barry

Very striking image Barry, love the echo. The colours are a bit flat but on opening in PS I see you're using Adobe colour space, sRGB is best for web (I tentively point out as you're obviously very competent).
As for Ospreys last year I had my own English pair but this year no such luck yet.
There's a Swedish photographer Magnus Carlsson who can help you I'm sure, website is www.taigavision.com.

You might struggle to get in. Its often fully booked. The best time to go is August when the ospreys are fishing with their young. Concerning the hides; there are a couple of them and photography can be good. However; if you go for the full frame, you will often have a strip of green grass in the background....rather annoying. So the best to do is to crop as some photographers do! Also if the wind direction is wrong, the only thing you might come back with are osprey a....s

There are better places for Ospreys in Finland but not everyone knows these places......

Barry,

I have been there many times, and you won't see any Ospreys next week there. It doesn't open till end of July really. It is fully booked this year. I will be running trips next year if I get enough interest. They are very close but you need a 300mm 2.8 to stand a chance. Email me if you want anymore info. I will be in Finland from tehe 9th of July, photographing ospreys but on the nest.

Thanks

Brian
