Hi all,

I start work shortly abseiling on the QE2 Bridge at Dartford. I'll be there for about 4 weeks, and finish work at 4pm every day. Has anyone got any suggestions about sites I could visit for a few hours in the evenings?

I know the Isle of Sheppey is close with some RSPB reserves, but this is a part of the world I've never been too!

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Abseiling on the QE2 bridge? Blimey that must be quite a photo opportunity. Having lived near Canterbury and also on the coast, I reckon (I know its a bit far perhaps an hour and a half) Dungeness is a must for any photographer, very photogenic. It does have a reserve with pools great for Terns.

Hi Pete,

Guess this is my area

Sheppey is good but an absolute pain to get to at the moment as they are building a new bridge, it normally takes me 20mins to get to the reserve at Elmley, last time I went in the evening it took me nearly two hours, most of it sat in traffic......

The Wildfowl reserve at Sevenoaks can offer some good opportunities and just up the road is Knole Park where you can get good shots of Fallow and Sika deer, Drive round to the far side and you can park up and enter through one of the gates, avoid the house end like the plague...

Slightly further afield, about 1 1/2 hrs drive from Dartford is the Stodmarsh EN reserve, this is where I photographed the KF....

The Kent Wildlife trust has a good listing of its sites on their website many of which are easily accesable from the Dartford area.

A point to remember about Kent is that from 4.00pm onwards traffic can become a problem as people make the nightly journey home from work in London...

If I can help in any way let me know....

Phil

P.S. Tim never knew that you used to live down here
