Worst lighting possible, I know
Ran onto this Park and Falls on the way back from a VW bus club campout in Maupin. 12:15 PM, Blue sky, harse shadows. Mostly just to see if anyone has been there in spring and good light. It is White River Falls, about 20 miles N.E. of Maupin. I lightened the shadows as much as poss. Haven't tackled RAW yet, and didn't think about an exposure for the shadows. There is a third drop just out of frame at the bottom.

Not bad lighting at all. Pretty good lighting, actually. Now, if the lower tier was in the shade, then we'd be having a totally different conversation. Fast exposures work well on this one because it very effectively shows the power of the falls.

I would say rather than trying to lighten the shadows, run a few mild passes of Highlights / Shadows over the shadow areas, that'll bring the detail out better and the image won't look like the brightness has been pulled up too far (more difficult to pull the detail if this was shot in JPG, but worth a try).

Jerry,
The chaotic nature of the shot works well with the lighting... I think I would clone out or crop the sky. IMHO of course.
