My wedding is in Crested Butte July 30, and I would like to recommend a location or trail for my guests (and for our wedding pictures) that will have the best wildflowers around this time. What might be in bloom? How is the snowpack and rainfall this year? Thanks for any tips...
Good snow year, but it's been so hot and dry that it's melting fast. July 30th will likely be the tail end of things around CB, but you probably won't go wrong on either the Gothic road or Washington Gulch.
I personally like Robinson Basin above Lake Irwin and Ohio Pass. Todd's locations are usually a sure thing too! I was Gothic last year and the Lupine were Looped for sure! Washington was awesome as well. The best Columbine were about half way in in an Aspen Grove along the right as you head North. Slate River was ok on the West Slope last year with Paint Brush and a few other small varieties such as Alpine Lilies.
Like I said Robinson Basin is awesome and if you head that way the waterfalls up on the way to Scarp Ridge next to Ruby Peak are usually awesome too.
Thanks for the tips. Are these areas not too far from the road? We would like to find a meadow or trail that we can walk to in dress shoes and the wedding dress.
I heard it has been hotter than normal in Colorado, so if things dry up, I guess we will get a better show at the higher elevations. We are staying at a house on Washington Gulch road near Meridian Lake, and also spending time in in Mt Crested Butte.
there is a meadow off the Road heading up to Kebler pass where the turn off to Lake Irwin is that you might like also another closer to the lake worth a shot. South of C.B. between Gunny and C.B. you can find some fields you can ask to get access to for this sort of project. Washington Gulch can get VERY dusty as the roads are all unpaved.
If you head out on Gothic you can find a few spots close to the road where you can look back south at Mt Crested butte in the back ground or North to Gothic Mountain.
