I'm wondering how to carry my beloved 600 f4 in my mountain trips...I have a quite large backpack, but it is not enough for all the stuff :-/

Do you know a good backpack that can contain:

Canon 600 f4
Camera, other lenses (24-105, 180 Macro) and flash
Gitzo 1548 tripod, Wimberley head, Manfrotto 141 head
Tent
Sleeping bag
Food and water (usually two or three 1.5 liters bottles)

I can carry the camera, flash and small lenses in a separate bag, but I really need at least a free hand, so the 600 must stay in the pack...

Thanks for every suggestion! :wavey:

Besides buying a pack mule  you might consider the Lowepro PhotoTreker II AW. It comes witha smaller back pack as well.

Thanks for asking Juza!!
I'm carrying a lot less. A smaller/lighter tent is what am looking for now...the one I have is bigger and for 2 ppl...it was always in the car and taken out only when needed.
I will carry 17-40L and xt, and perhaps EOS3 as a backup. I'm planning to carry everything in one bag (local backpack product) and a small bag for camera.
no idea for 600 though PhotoTreker II AW is only one I can suggest...a mule will be great..dunno if you will get that.

I would look at the Kelty Storm 3600 or the 4900 if you need some extra room. They're internal frame backpacks with 3 liter hydration systems built in, large enough for all your gear and several days worth of food, and have plenty of external lash points for things like tripods, Wimberley head, etc. And there are external water bottle size pockets that can carry additional lenses. Sleeping bag and tent normally get lashed to the top and bottom of the backpack. Must remember though, these are conventional backpacks, not the lush padded things you might normally carry your equipment in. The only camera-backpack I know of that is suitable for a 600 f/4 is the Lowepro Lenstreker. I carry my 500 f/4 around in one with a ID MkII N attached, but there isn't room for anything else. The tripod and head get lashed on externally. There's a pocket for some smaller lenses on the outside.

Yeah... if you are going to carry long lens + camping gear, stuff it into a normal backpack. Wrap it around the sleeping bag for protection and you should be ok.

I have the Kinesis pack for hiking with my 600mm. It's perfect for this application but not for the amount of stuff you want to carry. That's going to be tough and heavy!!!
