Moorhen calling
20D, 400/2.8 + 2x, ISO400, 1/250 @ f10, Gitzo 500 (at lowest) + 393, RSP + CS2.

Hi,

A continuation of the Common as Muck series

I had to give a series of talks/workshops for the open day at one of our local reserves (in return for a private feeding station). I was allocated the dipping pond, of course the only regular visitors were the local family of moorhens, so used them and retitled the demonstration 'Making the best of it'.

This is full frame with just a slight crop from the left hand side to A4 format, I guess I should have added a touch of canvas to the right but decided to leave as is for posting here...

All the best

p.s. RSP review almost finished, hope to get it on here before I go on leave later in the week...

Lots of nice detail in the blacks and whites which is a bonus but it's just way too tight in the frame.

Nice image Phil, well exposed but its a bit too tight for me as well!

Well, I quite like the tight crop on this Phil. I don't mind these from time to time although more room would be the norm.

It's the detail and good pond flora that make this a fine pic for me.

PS Spent my miss spent youth down south on either side of the Thames. It's OK down there but hasn't got the Dales or Cumbria.

Hello Phil
I think Tim forgot to mention Lancashire too
I must admit that I find this image a little too tight, but it is perfectly exposed and the detail is excellent.
Best wishes

I find the image attractive with nice colours

Cheers all,

Agree it is a tad too tight, I did allude to that in the description I gave, a classic example of being overgunned, could have dropped to the 1.4 but this adult suddenly appeared out the blue and started calling to its young and didn't have time to make the change

All the best

Yup, concur with the "wish the 1.4 wasn't on" Phil. Superbly exposed and well presented to show so much black detail.

Another fine image imo. Very colourful and lots of detail. I'm sure that a print on matte paper would look great.
