There are couple of trips coming up in July/August. I'm looking for a small bag to hold a EOSD (350 or 5D) camera and 17-40L and 50mm. And other things like batteries, CF cards etc.
I was thinking about Tamrac velocity for easy access but HankP suggested me to get a messenger1 or 2. Just want to know if you have got any other suggestion before I purchase. I also think that (lowe-pro)off-road or off-rail will do a good job.
For a trip to paris my small tripod, lunch pack, water, book will go into a small rucksack. For the mountain trip it will go into a big backpack.

Thanks for your time,

I have been very happy with Tamrac's Adventure 9 for similar uses with you. The nice part about it is that the top keeps water, lunch etc separate from the camera. And since the top is designed for that type of stuff, it easily compresses when in my multi day backpack.

The only problem has been strapping a tripod to it, but you can get creative...

Jim,
I already own Orion-AW for that kind of need. I find it quite big for city-seeing and do not want to carry into the mountains as I will sleeping bag, tent, food etc. The later will be my first 'camping' adventure...so less weight is better for me. I'm used to hiking/climbing etc but always stayed in huts or something similar. This will be different and first time for me.

I have the LowePro Offtrail 2, which is the bigger version of the Offtrail 1. These modular belt systems are incredibily versatile and comfortable in the field. The only time I don't recommend them is if you are getting on/off a bus or train frequently. You could probably get away with the smaller Offtrail 1. The Offtrail 2 can hold the big Canon 100-400mm lens attached to a camera.

I have the Tamrac velocity 7 and like it alot. It is really easy to get at the camera, fits my d50 with attached 18-70mm lens, 50mm, blower, lens cloth, three filters from Cokin P, two batteries, I have my flash in its case attached to the shoulder strap. My only peave about it is that it does get uncomfy after about 5 or so hours.
