I'm heading down to Newport, OR at the end of July and will be taking my full photo kit. Does anyone have some recommendations for best places to shoot in that area? I'll be there for about seven days, so I should have time to really explore the area.
Be sure to visit the aquarium. Puffins are super easy to photograph there and it's just a cool place.
Also, I'd recommend Seal Rocks State Park, Heceta Head Lighthouse, Sea Lion Caves (not so much for photography, it's just cool), Cape Perpetua, Yaquina Head and Yaquina Bay Lighthouses.
The bridge in the morning can be great from the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse area.
Don't forget the Newport harbor for both foggy mornings and some neat twilight stuff. (some of the best shots are to be had after the sun goes down)
There's a beach just north of Newport....Moolack I think. Good distant view of the Yaquina Head lighthouse.
And that's all. There's nothing more

The Photographer's Guide to the Oregon Coast, by David Middleton and Rod Barbee. It's a great little read with wonderful tips on places to photograph.
Newport is one of my favorite places on the coast. I would recommend a trip down to Cape Perpetua for some dramatic ocean spray shots...
Good luck with your trip and post some images over here when you get back.
Cheers,
*GASP* What? you can visit a place without a camera and tripod??? Please don't tell my wife!!!
And Curtis, I've actually seen some cool shots from the caves, so you're safe
