After viewing all the great nature photography from this group and reading some of the forum postings I have signed up as a member. I know there is a lot I can learn here and I wanted to say thank you all for sharing your photography and your information.

I got my first DSLR camera in May 2005, a Canon 20d, and have been hooked on nature photography since. I have a 100-400mm L Canon telephoto lens and a Canon 100mm Macro lens. In March I bought the Canon 5d and I am working toward the purchase of a Canon 500mm f4 telephoto. I would not consider myself a photographer but I do get out and take a lot of nature pictures, 17,000 with the 5d since the middle of March. I photograph birds mainly but I also enjoy the flowers, butterflies and all the other creatures that come in range of my camera lens. After a few months of photographing all the birds in my pasture I started contacting the naturalist and biologist at the area parks and wildlife refuge to see what else was out there waiting to have its picture taken. Since December I have spent many hours driving around photographing birds from my truck window and walking the shores of area lakes. I have a good group of bird watchers here and universty biologist to help me find birds and identify them. I now supply photographs for the wildlife refuge and nature centers. I am just now looking into the selling side of photgraphy as a way to help pay for new lens and other equipment as my interest grows.

Woodturning has been my main interest for the last 20 years and something I teach and give demostrations on. I was recently on Home and Garden TV turning a birdhouse ornament. I also have a web site for sharing woodturning information. I'm working on a web site for my nature photography now.

That's enough about me for now. If any of you are ever in the southern Oklahoma area and need help finding birds to photograph or just want to say hello contact me.

Hello to both of you Bill and John. John, I only shoot RAW so I have the best quality picture for later use. I shot a few jpegs when I first got the 20d but soon set the camera to RAW and haven't shot any since. I don't try to process all the pictures. I have a couple of 2 gig flash cards for the camera and a notebook computer I carry with me so I can shoot as many pictures as I want. When I get home for the day I transfer everything over to my desktop computer and burn the pictures to a DVD. I usually go through the pictures pretty quick in Adobe Bridge and duplicate the best ones to a folder for later processing. I'm working on getting pictures selected for my portfolio and the critique forum here so you will be able to see some of my pictures soon. Right now I'm about to head out and see what wants to pose for me this morning.

Welcome Larry! Do you live near the Red Hills, or the lakes in the east?

Thank you all for the welcome.

Kent, I live in Ardmore, lake country mainly. Lots of bald eagles to photograph in the winter along with white pelicans, snow geese, and all types of ducks. I didn't make it to the lakes until December this year but I will be there to watch all the birds come back this year.
