1) Wondering if anyone had any oppinions on places to get my film processed, specifically 120 roll film and mail order... been thinking about trying A&I I've heard they are pretty good and are one of the more well known mail order of course I'm about to have my first roll of E6 120 finished off and looking for opinions on places to send it it... The only face to face shop I would have thought could do it for me (within 30mins drive) has recently closed it doors forever (ran into the old owner working at another shop now, sad to see him close his doors, he was the largest shop in my area, now I have basically nothing again)
2) Secondly any oppinions for online printing of digital photos? I'm been wanting to get some prints of some new shots I took and just get them sent to my house so they'd be there when I got home....
3) Also along the same subject I seem to recall having seen places previously where you can upload your photos and get prints but also choose a price for if someone else wants a print so you can make a profit off it... Not trying to really make income or anything, but thought it might be a neat way for friends to get prints if they want them, and maybe earn an extra buck or 2 (you never know, especially with lower end prices), I don't want to pay for it either, I'm looking for something kind of like CafePress, or similar, where an average consumer might look for a neat photo for thier house, not having to pay $100's or more for it.
If you have any oppinions on any or all, please share, thanks!
You didn't say in your post where you are located. If you are near Portland I have received consistant results for my 4x5 Velvia from Citizen's Photo, http://www.citizensphoto.com/ . They will do mail order. You might also try Pro Photo Supply for other processors. Sorry, I don't have any comments on your other questions.
Yeah sorry bout that, I'm about 1-1.5 hours south of Portland (depending on how fast you drive), I'll check into Citizen, also remembered theres an Evergreen film service in Eugene I've looked at before, though I don't recall them doing 120
For 120 and 4x5, as well as digital printing, we used Prolab in Seattle for 15 years till they shut down, then followed the personnel to Pacific Color. When those individuals didn't last at PC we moved on to H&H Color Lab in the midwest.
This is a pro source, while your needs appear to be more casual than ours. I'd still look at the pro companies for your MF, LF and digital work, simply because the results are going to be more consistent. At the very least, a perusal of pro sources will give you an idea what to expect and how to evaluate other consumer sources you might be considering. If you do start selling more and more work, you'll be glad you started on the right foot.
