Hey there!! I was browsing other regions here on NPN and Erik Lundh from PNW posted this topic and got some good responses. I think it's a great way for everyone to meet. What do you think?

Hey folks,
There are alot of new members on the forum as of late. I'm starting this thread so you can introduce yourself(new and old members) and throw up a photo so we can see who you are.
Hello. I'm new to this forum. I found this board while searching for forums on Colorado so I've been spending some time on the RMNP (Rocky Mt.) site to help plan my trip this fall.
Anyway, my name is Jennifer and I live in the Finger Lakes of New York. I've only been shooting seriously for 2 1/2 years. Prior to that I rarely took pictures and only owned P&S cameras. I purchased my first SLR, the Canon 10D, 2 1/2 years ago after realizing how much I was beginning to enjoy photography and how little control I had with a P&S. Since getting the SLR I've learned everything from f-stops, to rule of thirds and proper composition, to what bokeh is. I've even started selling some things and have had a few pictures published.
A few weeks ago when I first found this forum I was excited to see the "Outings" link...but then was disappointed to see the last post was from 2003. Is this board generally slow (not a lot of frequent posting) or is there just no interest in outings? Just curious.
The "Outings" list is kind of old, but just keep a watch on this forum as some of us do get together for a day or two to shoot. It's usually a spring and fall type of thing, although we never did get tgether as a group this spring. Last year a group of us met in Maine for a successful (well, at least the first day) moose shoot. We also got together in the spring of 2005 to shoot Osprey in Maine. I believe we are going to try and put together a fall foliage shoot this year. If you have ideas, feel free to post them.
As for myself, I've been a member of this forum for about three years now. I've been an avid photographer since I was a teen, although I took a long break during the "child raising" years. I've been back at it passionately for about 8 years now. I enjoy shooting landscapes and wildlife for the most part. I sold my last film camera (4x5 field camera) and have been digital ever since. I shoot with a Nikon D2X, D200, and a bunch of black lenses!
While I have been selling more my photography, it still doesn't pay for all the new "toys" I'd like, so I also have my own tax and financial services business. I currently live in Tunbridge, Vermont.
I'm relatively new to this site, and photography in general. I have only been persuing nature photography for a few years, and seriously only for a few months. I work as a Meteorolgist on the summit of Mount Washington, and my photography has developed from a professional need to doccument the weather up here. Joining NPN has really helped inspire the desire to improve, and am think that I am now ready to begin promoting myself as a photographer. Any thoughts or tips...appreciated, as I know taking good images is just about the easiest part of making anything out of this hobby!
I work on a rather odd schedule that affords me the time to really challenge myself to build a portfolio while off the hill, and I've really been into NE wildflowers, specifically the alpine varieties this year. I'll always be drawn to the skies though, and my collection of atmospheric optics will improve this fall as the weather turns more favorable!
My schedule does not bode well for weekend outings, but I'd love to meet some of the people on this forum sometime during the midweeks if anyone is around...and for a fall outing, I'd happily help guide a trip across the Kank during foliage season!
Well, I guess since I initiated this, I should write a bit. Grew up in MD and had no idea what I wanted. Seemed like bartending and partying were all I needed then but I was intrigued with photography. When I moved to Saco, ME I started playing around with my Olympus. Then Bartlett, NH was my next home and I truly became hooked. Learned from books and magazines and ESPECIALLY trial and error (lots of errors!!) And always still learning!!
Bought my first Nikon and started showing and getting minorly published. Twelve years later, and after many day trips to the Great North Woods, I moved to Errol to pursue my dream. Was able to buy a mint condition but used 400mm 3.5 lens and the quality of my work went up. Someday, maybe, I'll be able to go digital...
So, I work at a sporting camp full time, help an elderly lady with her flower garden and mow lawns for a living and when I can...work on my passion. I have a line of notecards that are in six towns around here and they do well and help me finance it. Thanks for looking and I look forward to meeting you folks!!
Well i'm from Pennsylvania..but I travel North more than I travel South so I figured that I would post here...
A few years ago I went on a trip across the country with my family and I took a ton of pictures, but you know how it goes...not many I really liked. I wasn't even really that serious about it. About a year later I went back out to Utah with my Dad for a quick trip around the state and prior to this trip I did some investigating into everything photography and that time actually came away with a few I really liked!
To make a long story not quite as long...I played around with it until last fall when I bought a view camera and really fell in love with taking photographs. My photography has openned my eyes to the amazing scenry that exists everywhere..even here in Pennsylvania..one of the most industrialized states in the country.
Jim..I plan on making it up to the whites later this summer/fall for a few midweek trips.
Hi Jennifer, Richard, Jim and Matt!! Thank you for responding!! I like the idea of this forum and when I joined I had hoped to "meet" other photographers but it tends to be a bit anonymous so when I had seen Erik's post, I thought what a great idea to learn about each other. So again, thanks!!
I'd love to "hear" from anyone else, please!!
Cheers!!

I'll stand up and introduce myself as well.....
I am originally from New York, but Maine has been home for as long as I can remember. I used to work as reporter/photographer before hanging up that hat and starting doing nature and wildlife work.I discovered my interest in photography in college, but I guess you could say it is in my blood as both my grandfathers were avid serious amateur photographers.
Home is now in Rangeley, Maine in the western part of the state. I hope to see some of the new faces at the fall meeting!!
Hi Nick! I was in Oquossic the other day during the Strawberry Festival. I was showing my work. I'll also be there again at the The Gallery on Aug. 5th for the Arts and Antiques Show. If you can go, I'd love to meet you. If not then, maybe another time. See you!
Hello everyone. Just a note to introduce myself. My name is Pat Brundage and I'm from Connecticut. Small state with alot of good photographers. I love photography... all subjects. I don't know whether I will be able to go to the fall group get together, but will try. We have a local group of photographers who have Fridays off, so we go on Friday shoots. Lately we've been to Block Island, NY Botanical Gardens, and this weekend we are going to Innisfree Gardens in NY. I've been told they have great photo ops for water lilies and lotus blossoms. Photography has enabled me to travel to many unusual places and to make many new friends along the way. Hope to meet some of you soon. Pat B
