I posted this over on the Midwest Forum, but realized that for some odd reason Missouri isn't considered "Midwest." I find that odd, but it is rather common. At any rate, I recognize a few names on here -- Tim Ernst (whose images I have admired for years) and Mark Karpinski (whom is a really cool guy that I have had the pleasure of shooting with). So below is the post I probably should have posted here.

======================
I am relatively new to the forum and figured I would introduce myself. I am a 28 year old guy from St. Louis and am a self-described fly fishing addict, that has been grabbed by photography. I found myself emersed in some of the most beautiful places the ozarks / midwest has to offer in search of trout. Now I split my time evenly between fishing, and chasing nature through my camera lens.

I shoot with the following camera gear:
o Nikon D70 Camera Body
o Nikkor DX AF-S 18-70mm f3.5 – 5.6 G ED
o Nikkor AF 70-300mm f4.5 – 5.6 G
o Sigma EX 50mm f2.8 Macro D
o Sigma APO 400mm f5.6
o Sigma 35-70mm f2.8 – 4
o Tokina AT-X 80-400mm f4.5 5.6
o Tokina RMC 2x Teleconverter
o Nikon SB-600 Flash
o Nikon SB-25 Flash

I have only been shooting more than casually for just over 1 year, and it is a very rewarding experience.

I tried to include an image that I shot while in the smokies this June, but something happened and it didn't work. I do have some whitetail / turkey shots on my site http://www.photographychronicles.com but just couldn't figure out how to get the photo to show up in this post.

At any rate, the images I have seen from everyone on this forum have been very cool and give me something to aspire to. If anyone is from the St. Louis area (or is traveling to the area) and wants to get together to shoot please drop me an email (matt@ozarkchronicles.com). I look forward to participating in the future, and maybe meeting some of you.

Fish Hard,
Matt Tucker

Welcome Matt! Thanks for the introduction, we look forward to having you participate here at CSNP. I think there are a few others that frequent this forum that like to wet a line.

We look forward to seeing some of your images! Thanks for joining us! :wavey:

I have always been baffled by the term "midwest" too as it applies to this country since none of the states they are normally talking about are either in the "mid" or the "west" - just doesn't make any sense to me. They are all northern states on the east side of the country. Duh. But I guess that term might have come about before anyone had ventured west of the MIssissippi, although it still doesn't match up with their northern locations...

The dictionary says: "the region of northern states of the US from Ohio west to the Rocky Mountains. Formerely called The Far West." Of course, that doesn't jive either. Perhaps something like "North Central" might be better, but it is too late now since all the weather people are kind of stuck on that...

As a native Ohioan, I considered "the midwest" to mean the Big Ten states (ie, OH, IN, IL, MI, WI, MN, and IA). Western Pennsylvania gets lumped in much of the time too because it's so much like Ohio, and also because Penn State is now in the Big Ten.

At any rate, welcome to the forum Matt, and I look forward to seeing some of your photos!

Welcome to the forum Matt! I used to do a good bit of hunting, and fishing too. However, in recent years, I've pretty much devoted most of my spare time to capturing those special outdoor moments on film and a sensor, and have had no regrets.

If you're having trouble posting your work, just remember that the longest dimension of your image is limited to 720 pixels, and the maximum file size is 200kb. Things should go pretty smoothly if you follow those guidelines. Hope to see some of your work soon! :wavey:
