Wyoming Sunrise
Woke up this morning, and after doing a few things the sun started comming up, and it was looking awesome, so I quickly started the truck and drove the the east end of the truck stop (Little America) grabbed the camera and tripod and hastely set up...

Not a great shot due to not having a grad ND (working on getting some), and hasty set up, needed a wider lens for sure, this was 24mm with of course the 1.6x crop factor working against me... Guess I need to order a 20mm or something....

I know it's not a great shot, the only thing I'm curious as I've not done a lot of sunrise/sets is if the exposure looks right? I shot at 0comp, +1/2 and +1 stop compensation, this is the +1 comp, metereing was matrix, I did try my 54degree reflected reading with my Sekonic, off of the clouds/sky and it seemed to agree with this setting of +1 or (1/2 sec @ f/11, ISO 100, mirror lockup, timer release)also this is straight RAW to JPEG conversion, right out of FileViewer, Daylight, High Contrast/saturation, and standard sharpening... PS for resize only

It's weird, I like it!
I think cropping a little off the top and about half of the black foreground makes it weirder and therefore I'd like it more. ( )

Hmm, interesting idea... I kinda hate to lose any of the colored clouds, but I'm sure cropping the bottom would help... Might have to try that later when I have time.... Wish I could have got more of the sky, when I looked out over the trucks all I could see was red fire in the sky, but a 24mm didn't do it justice, plus time delay from first seeing to getting to it... was lucky to find that little lake though, and a spot with no trucks, I was just gonna shoot it with trailers in the foreground and everything ;)

Love the colors - I'd crop a bit off the bottom. I like the top a lot.

Thanks, I wasn't expecting it to turn out like much, other than the colors in the sky, since the setting wasn't great, played with the cropping in PS, and I did like it a little more after taking a small amount off the top, took a LOT off the bottom, wasn't sure how much would be good, but liked eliminating most of the dark foreground, gives it an interesting aspect ratio too...
