My wife and I (and family) will be spending the week of July 8th-15th at Oak Island NC for a family vacation. On Saturday July 15th, my wife and I are going to head south to Huntington Beach State Park and Hunting Island for photography.
Are there any places where you can camp on the beach away from the masses?
Thanks in advance.
Also, I would appreciate any other ideas of places to go. I do scenics as well as wildlife and especially birds.
I am not sure if there is camping at Huntington Beach or not. You might want to call them. Other than that, that whole Myrtle Beach area is not into beach camping. I am more familiar with the beaches near Charleston and areas south of there.
I didnt read your entire post carefully. Sorry. If you are going to Hunting Island, there is camping there - right off the beach. Edisto Island -which is just 30 minutes south of Charleston - also has a campground as well. Lots of good photo opportunities at both places, but my preference would be Hunting Island.
Hunting Island has changed alot, however in the past 2 months. I am currently writing an article for South Carolina Magazine and I am very disturbed at what I hear is going on. Beach renourishment, adding 100 feet of new beach is ruining the natural features of the beach. They are proposing building "groins" this fall to help with the erosion problem as well. I guess I am the only one who sees this erosion as part of the charm of the island and natural beach.
WHAT! You have got to be kidding! We need to look at the timing of this work for the workshop! Damn! One place on the SC coast that has natural beaches and they have to screw it up! This sux!
