Anybody been to Mt. Rainier lately? What are the trail conditions at Paradise? I assume it's still early for the wild flowers.

I was hiking up along I-90 east of Issaquah yesterday. Those trails are wide open, no snow at all, but they are all relatively low.

It is still little early, but it is getting there i would say 2 more weeks for a dispay to start big time.

9 inches of snow at Paradise as of this morning. Figure on peak flowers roughly 3 weeks after snow melt depending on the weather.

Nancy & I were in MRNP yesterday and Paradise still has at least a foot of snow at the lodge and more as you go higher into the meadows above the lodge. Down lower there were quite a few Indian Paintbrush, Lupine, Bear Grass, Avalanche Lillies and assorted others.

What was quite weird is the place was almost empty of visitors except for all the construction people/vehicles. Paradise Lodge is in the middle of a major renovation and the big parking lot at the lodge is closed off. Parking on a busy day will be a real pain with parking now provided down the exit road well past Fourth Crossing.

Speaking of Fourth Crossing the snow there was at least two feet deep so it will be awhile before that's all gone and the flowers bloom.

The weather yesterday was all over the place with everything from hail/thunder/lightening to rain then partial sun. We got wet, then spooked by a VERY close thunder clap so we called it done and came home early.
