Just how nice are the flowers in the Flat Tops?
Mother Nature has provided an exclamation point to drive the "point" home. My brother and I just spent three days in the Flat Tops Wilderness, inspired by Bret Edge's Flat Tops trip a few years back. Since we didn't have the same surname attachment to Edge Lake as Mr. Edge, we stayed around Hooper Lake instead. The weather was VERY dynamic, which produced almost 3 gigs of really good photographic material to play with. Like I always say, bad weather often makes good photographs!

I gotta tell y'all about my most bizarre wildlife encounter. We were heading down from the pass that dropped us into the valley where Hooper and many other lakes sit, and along come two women probably in their sixties. They both looked very happy and contented, despite their uphill climb. And why did they look so happy? I don't know for sure, but it just might've been the man with them, about 70 years old. Oh, and did I mention he was wearing nothing but a baseball cap, hiking boots and a backpack? I've not seen too many men's sausages, but I can guarantee you I've never seen one this tanned! I'm quite disappointed that my first naked backpacker encounter was a septaugenarian man and not a nubile young woman, but it was definitely good for lots of laughs around camp for the last few days.

(Sorry ladies, my camera was packed deep in my backpack, so no pictures of Grampa Nature Boy.)

Well, judging from the image, the flowers in the Flat Tops are damn nice and judging from the punctuation mark they appear about as modest as the sausage man. Show us more! Nature photos, I mean...

Great photo and an even better story!

I had plenty of interesting encounters while hiking/backpacking when I lived in Gothic that would have made for some great man & nature shots.

Gorgeous pic, Todd! - and great eye. I'm glad that you didn't have your camera out for the naked hiker boy encounter; the mental image is quite enough.

Looks like the flowers in the Flattops are awesome, Todd! Look forward to seeing the photos from your trip.

I can't say that I've ever had such a strange encounter in the wild and frankly, I hope I never do!

Hilarious! You must have missed nature’s question mark -- as in “What the hell?”

Great picture. (…the one you posted of curse, not the one in my mind right now!!!)

Maybe it was a rainbow that strolled over from Steamboat?! Hilarious story and a most unique image - can't wait to see more.
