Hi all
I had a big speck of dust on the sensor that would not shift with a blower. So I tried a "Speckgrabber" which removed it great, But it left a huge smear on the Sensor.
Any advice on what I could use to remove the smear? or is it a Canon job.
be carefull with a "Speckgrabber"
Thanks
Gary

Alistair Campbell springs to mind.... (sorry - spent the week photographing Royals and Politicos)

Seriously though - Eclipse fluid and PecPads is the way to go

My advise; Have it done professionaly and stay away from all these fluids and do it ourself solutions.

When i first had mine cleaned at fixation they said my 1d2 had a line of grease/oil spots on the sensor and this is not uncommon with canon but once they are cleaned off they shouldnt come back,If you phone fixation in vauxhall London you can take it in and they do it on the spot-excuse the pun unless its full frame and then it takes a few days-if you send it to canon for a first service they clean the sensor free of charge

Thanks for the advice all.
I went to the local camera shop in Swindon they had the correct Eclipse fluid, sensor swabs and PecPads in stock for the 1Dmk2n so I gave that a go. it worked really great, the sensor is now spotless. Thanks Barrie!.
I don't think I shall use the "Speckgrabber" again.

I disagree with Rene. Get yourself a spatula, pec pads and some fluid and give it a good old wipe. If you use your camera regularly it will get full of crap and needs cleaning on a regular basis. I clean my D2X and D2H regularly, in fact the D2X is getting a scrub tomorrow as it's very dusty. I made my spatula out of a plastic fork by cutting off the tynes and sanding it down. I've cleaned my D100, D2H, D2X and several Canon bodies for friends.

Hi Gary

I have been using Eclipse Fluid and the sensor swabs for my 20D and now also my 5D. I have had no problems with this method of cleaning, sometimes it takes a couple of goes to fully clean the sensor but it works fine for me.

cheers
