I'm heading to France for a driving/touring trip in a few months and need to address how my gear will be packed/protected.

The following needs to come with me:
F5
80-200 AFS 2.8
20/1.4
50/1.4
SB28
TC14/TC20
N2000 body
35-135 manual zoom
wimberely flash bracket
Gelatin filter with Lee holder
medium size binoculars
20-25 rolls of film
Gitzo CF tripod in padded bag with AS ballhead attached
small point and shoot digital camera
Extra batteries, flash cords, manuals

SO, the question is will the Lowepro pro trekker have too much room thats not used. I tend to overpack and would like some room to add a few lenses in the future.

The tripod will go into a Pelican 1650 that serves as my suitcase. I'm hoping that if I don't overstuff the Pro trekker that I can carry it on (using compression straps to further reduce bulk/girth.

Have any of you carried the Pro Trekker AW II on as carry on? I will be removing the tripod hoot holder and 2 detachable pouched to minimize the size.

What do you think of the potential setup? Thanks for the input. Nothing like receiving advice from seasoned veterans. I look forward to reading you replies.

BTW, i have a Lowepro shoulder strap/waistbelt setup with a 75AW toploader and various cases. I will be in/out of the car and need to be able to have everything protected at all times-I'm a bit clumsy.

well i have the mini trekker, and i always carry it on the plane... fits easily... i know the pro trekker is bigger, but it will still fit underneath the seat...

Seems like people must be out and having fun. Good for everyone.

Decided to give the pro trekker a try. Should easily fit into one of my Pelican 1650 cases should I not be able to carry it on.

I also was told to check out moose peterson's backpack but can't for the life of swallow the idea of camera with large lens off center and no padding on the back flaps and very slim/slender shoulder pads. I'm definately no that minimalist.

Anyways, I load up my stuff and let you guys know how everything fit. That could be helpful for the next fellow that has the same question.

Bryce, thanks for taking the time to respond.

Well, I received the Pro Trekker AW II and it will fit all of this gear without issues. It has a removable tripod holder, and 1 vertical padded and 1 vertical unpadded pouch. These will remove easily and this will make the Pro much sleeker for boarding. Also there is a small thin backpack that can be attached to the outside at a later time. So , removing these 4 items from the exterior really makes this much sleeker.

Anyway, I thought I would follow up since someone else might need a similar question answered.

I used to post a bit a few years back and it seemed like there was more traffic and generally more people chiming in but anyways.
