Ok, Darren - you had asked for lightning shots a week ago and then posted some pretty good ones of your own. Well, here's one I took from behind my house the night of that same electrical storm...

Whoaa! Very cool. I really like the gradiation in the sky that your long exposure (and lightning of course) produced. Very cool.

Thanks, Brett! I had never shot lightning before and I reasoned that my only decent chance of getting a strike was to point the camera off in the direction of the storm and hold the shutter open on bulb for a lengthy amount of time. I ended up with two decent lightning strike shots and many more frames with nothing...

Well from my understanding that is the best way at least to start with lighting, set f8, set bulb, as soon as a bolt or 2 comes stop exposure...

Nice capture, reminds me of my first lightning shot, similar colors etc... though mine no where near as dramatic... I like how you got several different sparks in there, the reality is that that was probably all of what the eye would see as a single bolt of lightning... which is what makes it fascinating to see all the little things the eye could never see...

Nice capture, I keep waiting for the opportunity to shoot some again, you are all making me jealous

Rick - it was luck. It doesn't take much ability to hold the shutter open for 21 seconds! I have quite a few frames where there was nothing but darkness...

William - when this bolt struck I actually saw it visually just as you see in the image. It was absolutely spectacular and I knew that I had captured a good one!
