Puffins at Dusk
The beauty about stopping on a Island overnight is the potential to photograph at dawn and dusk. I haven't photographed Seabirds for many years and I forgot how much fun they are to do. I had to knock the aperture right down on this shot to get all four birds in focus, I took loads of shots but only two have the birds looking in that side profile. Puffins are one of the nations favourite birds and after spending some time with them I can see why.

Canon EOS 1D MkII, 500mm Lens, F16, 1/60, ISO Rating 200.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, look at that, just look and feast, gorgeous stuff. I always worry about taking full on sun shots as some say its bad for the sensor. Is this true or just a myth?
Stonking!

Superb and atmospheric, different to the normal puffin shot which is why I like it so much...

Well seen and equally well captured. Refreshingly different.
Best wishes

Why is that everytime a sunset or some reddish colour is in photo it is perceived very nicely ?

Anyway I'm with the rest, I like it - I think what really makes it good is that you have all 4 profiles so sharply drawn against the sky. :toast:

Brilliant - love seeing something different with these birds and am v.jealous of you being able to see them at this time of day. More space either side might be the only thing I could add for improvement, otherwise just a great photo.

Hi Danny

Great shot, very atmospheric. What makes it work is having all four puffins clearly profiled so the beaks are visible. Seems you had a great few days camping up in Scotland, this is not a location I had heard about before, a bit different from Handa, Farnes, Shetland, etc.

cheers
