This morning I finally managed to catch sunrise at Arrowhead Lake in RMNP. This is the lake you see across the valley from Rock Cut on Trail Ridge Road. I have wanted to get into this valley for a long time. Now I can't wait to go back. I didn't come away with anything spectacular, but the area is stunning with lots of possibilities. This was my second attempt this week, today the weather cooperated and let me not only find where I was going but also a few clouds to decorate the sky.
Great photos Erik. I like the pano very much. If you want a suggestion, I would say that the mountain has too little contrast. It all seems to bright, without dark areas. Thanks for posting.
Cool, Eric. Where did you start hiking from? When I have my 4x5 set up like that I have to remind myself not to take a step forward when I'm under the focusing hood.
The clouds were nice yesterday, I got some good ones behind Flattop.
Beautiful landscape! I can recommend AutoPano too - makes stitching a no-brainer.

Hi, Erik! Nice shots. I'm nervous seeing that tripod as well, thinking of the previous river incident!

I'm curious too about where you started off from? Did you hike up from Poudre Lake, or did you take the longer path from the Visitor's Center lot past the tarns and then upwards? Most importantly, what time did you hit the trail?
Incidently, if you took off from Poudre, here's a shot I took on Saturday morning from near the trailhead. Lazy Elk
Hi Mark, I left from the Milner Pass TH at Poudre Lake. It took about 3 hours to get there so I hit the trail at 2am.

heh, I'd like to try that some day, but I'm afraid of the dark
were you up there on Saturday too? I was running around the area pretty early and made note of a car in that lot, since I don't usually see people up there at that time of the morning.
Yep, I was up there trying on Saturday as well trying to shoot Arrowhead. The fog was so thick on my way back it was difficult to see anything. I actually got lost for about an hour as there was no trail and no landmarks up in the tundra. That was one time I wish I had a GPS!

I've had my 4x5 on some crazy perches like that too. Always a trick to try to keep your camera bag within arms reach of the tripod!
