So I finally got my film developed from the last several weeks. I got five shots that I'm happy with. The 4x5 is really a tough sucker... you think that every shot you take will be a masterpiece, only to find out when you get the shots back that they're just normal pictures like any other camera. Except for all the detail of course.
Anyhow this shot here was from Ice Lakes Basin. The week after that I went on an amazing three day shuttle trip around Wetterhorn Peak, from the Middle Fork to the West Fork, via 5 different spectacular basins. Holy moly that is some beautiful country!!! I didn't get as many shots as I would have liked to on that trip due to the ever-looming lightning danger and the need to keep going going going. But you can see those shots on my San Juans page.
Will you stop posting all these wonderful shots now! You're posting images of the two places I still intend to get to this summer: Ice Lakes Basin and Wetterhorn Basin (I would have already gone to Wetterhorn but for the fire near there over the 4th). Now I feel like I'm just copying you.
BTW, will likely be back in the San Juans starting the 3rd and 4th week of July. We should catch a beer sometime night after shooting sunset, of course!
I'm guessing you didn't spring for the "magic" filters to go with the 4x5. These filters turn the normal scenes into masterpieces, but they're kind of expensive.
Seriously though you got some really great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
John - At one point on the trip around Wetterhorn, we passed what looked like a leprichan's hut. I bet those "magic" filters where in there!
Brian - When we descended into Wetterhorn Basin from the southwestern pass, the whole basin was full of smoke! Just hiking below the peak, the peak looked all hazy. Luckily that night the rains came and put most of the fire out, and the 3rd was a beautiful morning on Wetterhorn summit! I didn't haul the 4x5 up there though... we were travelling light and fast so that we could get back down and over the final pass before the thunderstorms.
