Hello everyone. With a little gentle prodding from Brent Dozerman (thanks Brent!) I have finally gotten around to joining this group. I look forward to learning from your wisdom and experience and sharing some of my own, limited though it may be.

I live in Laramie, Wyoming, and shoot mostly 4x5 and 6x17. I had the good fortune to meet Brent, Darren, and Rene a while back at the Maroon Bells. Brent and I recently spent a day hiking and shooting in the Snowy Range, which is about 45 minutes from Laramie and a little less than 3 hours from Denver. We lucked into a near-perfect sunrise as you can see in the pictures Brent posted yesterday. A few of my own shots from that morning, as well as many others from Wyoming and elsewhere, can be found on my Photo.net page here:

I try to head up to the Snowy Range at least once a week and would love to get together with any other photographers crazy enough to start hiking at 4:30 AM. The Snowy Range is fairly small and nearly all of it is easily accessible. The spot where Brent took his sunrise reflection shot is only a 15-minute hike from a parking lot. This assumes you stay on the trail, which Brent and I lost in the dark and spent the better part of an hour bushwhacking and scrambling up boulder fields to re-locate. Nearly all the snow has melted which means the streams are full and the flowers are out in abundance. These conditions should persist through the first few weeks in August, though I suspect late July will be when the columbines and other wildflowers are at their peak. The Snowy Range is oriented mostly from north to south like the Tetons, which means that sunrise photographic opportunities are everywhere, while you need to work a little harder to get good sunset shots. If I can answer any questions about the Snowies, or if any of you are thinking of coming up this way for a visit, don't hesitate to let me know!

Thanks everyone,

Brett

Hi Brett

I met you at Maroon Lake a couple of weeks ago, along with Brent and Darren. Glad to see you here at RMNP. I might have to take you up on the offer to visit the Snowies. Let us know if you have any plans to visit Colorado.

BTW – most of us are crazy enough to wake up at 4:30 am! You are in the right group of people.

Welcome Brett. As Rene pointed out, you'll fit in here very well. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work in the future! You sure pack alot of heat with that 6x17. Hopefully I'll get down to the Snowies some time soon. :wavey:

Brett, welcome to our great little area on the net. It's always great to meet people with terrific knowledge and access to such a wonderful area. I'm sure you will get a few takers on your offer of getting a personal tour; even if it starts at 4:30am.

Look forward to meeting you in person,
Craig

PS: Great images in your link; but "Fire in the Sky" is stunning.

Great shots Brett! Good to have you in the group. I think of all the members here, I might take the most prodding to get hiking at 4:30 AM.

Welcome!
Maybe you can get a few more from the north country to join too.
Outstanding portfolio!

Those are great photos! It's good to see some new areas in film (or digits as applies). It always impresses me what a great number of places are out there beyond what we see more routinely.

Great work... and it's nice to have someone from Wyoming on board. I keep meaning to head up that way, but it's such a long drive from New Mexico. But hopefully seeing more pictures like the ones you linked will motivate me!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I am humbled by the portfolios and images from members of this forum. I don't know any other similarly devoted (obsessed?) photographers in this neck of the woods so I'd welcome the company.

Welcome, Brett. I enjoyed visiting your gallery. Thanks for pointing out the Snowy Range. I haven't spent any time there at all. It looks like a great destination, especially in combination with Vedauwoo.
