This is a nice shot Alison, the subject is well placed, well exposed and sharp, I'm not so sure about the horizontal dark lines in the background as they are a bit distracting.
An excellent macro shot of a Golden Ringed Dragonfly. Probably a male but difficult to tell from this angle. Good exposure and the insect is tack sharp which is often tricky with close up photography. If this was handheld you have done very well.
The background is a bit of a let down but possibly difficult in this situation to get a different angle and background on the insect. The other option is to practice your PhotoShop skills on this image and try cloning out the distracting horizontal lines. Actually not too difficult although the colour of the background is not very natural, some Timbercare azur green shed colour which is not too appealing.
I thought I would have a quick bash at removing the background. A bit more time and using the original hires file would yield a better result but it shows the potential. I also would favour a portrait format for this shot.
Nice shot of a Goldie, think seans play has brought the best out of the image. I will never look at Seans photos again without wondering, oh for technology

Tell me about it, that used to just be a plain natural colour boardwalk and for some reason this year they decided to paint the whole lot this yukky greeny colour, ruined, completely ruined. When I see the worksmen again, I will ask why they did it cos it sure doesn't make sense to me.
As for photoshopping, I'm afraid I'm one of those people who really hates altering images, I don't even like having to sharpen slightly when they are resized for the web but that's a necessity, cropping is also something else I dislike and will avoid it wherever possible. I do sometimes lighten the shots up if they are a little dark too but again, I prefer not to if it can be avoided. I've no idea why I am like this, always have been and it takes a while for me to actually alter anything cos I am do reluctant to do so! lol!
The only alteration on the dragonfly shot was resizing and sharpening for posting here by the way, the rest is as it came off the camera.
Well spotted and a well taken shot.
Good job on keeping the whole of the dragonfly sharp from 'head to toe'.
Hopefully the freshly, and 'hideously' painted boardwalk may tone down a bit in colour after it's been subjected to a bit of weather and lots of walking on
