Damsel
Either "great minds think alike" (Sean)or "fools seldom differ"(me), but I took delivery of the same 180 canon lens as Sean yesterday, so just had to have a play with it. I'm not sure about the ID of this damsel, but it seemed very small, even for a damsel.
1DS2, 180macro, F13 @ 1/60th, ISO 320, tripod, self timer shutter release. Cropped some thistle from LHS.
I have printed this on A2 and I am really pleased with the result, it seems a very impressive lens.
Critique and insect ID welcomed.
Best wishes
Phil

Looks freshly emerged and hasn't developed it's 'true colours' yet - maybe Ischnura elegans? Great pinkish complimentary colours too on the perch. Looks like a great lens! :toast:

Hi Phil

Nice shot, classic damsel image, might have also pulled back a bit and got the whole flower head in the frame. A good variation to get a newly emerged insect.

It must be the time of year, everyone goes macro mad once the insects are in full swing. I am impressed with the 180mm lens after my first outing with it. I also took some damsel shots and the sharpness and detail was superb, certainly matches my 300 F4 L for sharpness.

Looking forward to seeing some more Scottish midge shots

cheers

Looks a bit naked to me, but a fine shot for an old geezer.
