Have had not had too much success with dragonflies this season, seem to be getting faster or i'm getting slower, anyway one taken at local pond, seems reasonably sharp, first migrant I have seen, unless I have id wrong

Canon D20 Canon 100mm~400 @ 400mm

1/800th sec f7.1 ISO 400

Your ID looks spot on to me Barrie. Lovely flight shot with a hint of habitat to add to it!

Hi Barrie

Wow, nice shot. :toast:

I'd be happy with one of these in a static pose, so top marks for getting a sharp flight shot. I also like the background colours and texture, really sets the dragonfly off well.

cheers

Well caught sir, as said sharp enough and great colour. I had a great time doing this a couple of years ago and was expecting it to be a yearly joy, but no such thing as their numbers in my spot have plumetted. So make the most of it.

An excellent result.
I especially like the fresh green backdrop which complements the dragonfly really well.

Intersting comments about reduced numbers of dragons and damsels this year, just found out that it is true....

Lovely flight image with a great bg...

Well deserved winner, great effort! Lots of Banded Demoiselles mostly males but some females at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Manchester three or four weeks ago. Lots of what looked
like Common Hawkers at Maiden Castle, Bickerton, Cheshire last week. Couldn't get any decent shots, too busy clearing Himalayan Balsam at QBM and Bracken at MC, with our
conservation group. :frown:
