I returned to the pond in the wood today to have another play with the new lens. I was delighted to find lots of insects of all sorts and sizes, many of which I'm ashamed to say I cannot ID. I came back with about 6gb of images, so that should keep me quiet for a while.
This orange beetle made me smile, he climbed up a reed, continually stopping to look around, then climbed halfway down again before flying away. He was quite small, about 1/2 inch long.
1DS2, 180 macro, tripod, F7.1, 1/125, ISO 200. Cropped to about 50% (but you can do that when you have all those little pixels working for you!)
Best wishes
Phil
I see you're having fun with the new lens. I think this is great, a picture that will appeal to many. I see lots of these when damsel hunting, I guess we're about to find out their name.

Great pose and expression, very well caught indeed
I would clone out the stem across the top left corner.
I have seen lots of these in the fields around me but I don't know what they are.
cheers
Sean
Keep them coming.

Must learn to look closer this is in fact a Soldier Beetle (Rhagonycha fulva), my excuse is that it is not easy to ID from this angle
Still a nice shot.....
