Finnaly had some lightning I could get a decent shot of... still going on actually, and is a "Severe" weather alert/warning for the next 15mins or so, and should continue off and on into the afternoon tommorow I guess... I'm in Vegas, My truck is messed up, been having engine problems for a while now (only a couple year old truck too) but lately doesn't want to turn over when I goto start
Anyways... not the greatest comp or anything, but was one of the best for a good lightning strike... I later on got up on the top floor of the parking garage (at a Casino/Hotel) about 5 floors up, which had a GREAT vantage point... but the rain picked up, and so did the wind... something around 20+MPH winds, heard quotes on the news of higest winds they've seen in a while... so finnaly gave up with only a handfull of shots with actual strikes in them... one while I was up on the top of the garage hit very close by, I saw the bolt almost directly overhead (slightly behind me) and the thunder was almost deafening, BIG BOOM!!!!!
D30, Choose Tungsten Daylight balance (liked it best) slight levels in PS (brought shadows in/up) and adjusted the middle slider on blue channel to get it a little more the daylight balance I liked best, slight crop off the top to remove the way bad flaring and blown out street light...
William, please tell me you took all the appropriate lightning safety precautions when you took this. When you say you stood out on the parking garage roof....
Well this one was ground level, but I did go on the top of the parking garage approx 5 stories up, but stood next to the elevators, so there were plenty of higher objects than me.... Light poles, this big sign tower thing on the roof, and of course the elevators themselves....
Thanks for the comments all... I actually sent this to one of the local news stations I'd been periodically watching, who kept showing viewer photos and putting the email address on, sent it in around 5, and the 6pm news (or whatever the next one was) did air it... in fact, it was so fast I missed it, I just heard them go into the pictures, and say my name (they showed mine first in the batch) by the time I looked it was a different picture... nothing spectacular, not like mine is the best photo on the planet or anything, but it was kinda cool, especially since they put it on air at the next airing of the news after I mailed it to them...
