Ever been here? It's down near willamette pass in the South cascades. I spent about six hours over two days battling spray on my lens, trying to capture a great perspective below the falls and finally gave up and decided to come back in September. Later, I found that by scrambling some steep stuff off the trail I could obtain this vantage point and include a few wildflowers too. The light was filtered, high clouds. I waited another hour or so to catch it just right. I used a light soft grad and blend to maintain detail in the blue sky also. Thanks for looking.
Rick, I'm glad you liked it. Simple comp? I wonder what the difference is between how we see this. I consider it one of the most complex images I've ever taken. Sure, the falls are dominant, but to expose everything from the wildflowers to the blue sky, the shadows to the rushing water was a feat that required a lot of work on site and a lot of careful processing. Simple comp for me would be just a shot of the falls, but the falls shown here are such a small part of the overall composition. I wanted to give the viewers a lot more to look at, which is why I tried so hard to find this perspective. I bet things like the flowers command more attention on print.
Sweet shot Marc...as usual. One thing is that I wish there was a tad bit more of the rock on the left. Great shadow control, and that sky.....very nice.
I am totally sure that the print holds more detail to explore, but the way that valley is configured, if forces my eye right down it like a bowling ball. There are not major portions of the comp that a allow my eye to really explore with much success, except that I really like the colors, the way you exposed this and overall feel to this image. I like it for it's immediate pleasure.
There's nothing wrong with it...but it's not as complex of an image as say...Adamus Falls...lots of big mossy bolders and trees to hide behind...ya know?
I see what you're saying Rick. I was hoping the unusual light and flowers would increase the overall appeal and give something more to look at. I think there would be more impact elsewhere on a big print.
Really beautiful, Marc and I agree with it not being easy to pull off. Shadow detail looks amazing even behind the falls - well done and the color is singing.... maybe a little too much, but very pleasant to look at and imagine the sound of the water....
What pulls me into the scene is the 3dness (is that a word? ) of the image. IMHO as an ameture, I love it, and if I had taken it, I would have Mark printing it up real big for me.

I like it, but feel a little right heavy to me, especially on the top.

Beautiful shot Marc, I was wondering if maybe you captured one of these with that rock fully exposed, to maybe balance out the top right portion? Maybe that would not make the top so right heavy as Tomas Kasper said. Truly love the colors and the exposure on this, and the falls are simply beautiful. Excellent shot!

Nice work.
I've nevr even seen these falls before. I think this is fantastic with the green canyon leading into the falls. Again, your work paid off.
Thankfully I'm not usually going THAT slow, we usually have fairly light loads... I think the last time I went up it, I was doing closer to 45-50
