Why are some CDs so loud in the drive, and is it an indication of a problem? I've noticed that some CDs, like the Ennio Morricone compilation I'm listen to at the moment are MUCH louder (not the music, the drive noise) than others. It makes me wonder if there is a mechanical problem, or if I'm causing one (which would cost me a fistful of dollars).
It could be, that a thinner CD, is not completely stuck between the top and bottom grip that keeps it while rotating, and thus slips a bit, while it tries to keep it at the right speed? Just an idea.
I wonder if it has to do with the software you're using. Some players buffer data and therefore may attempt to read from the CD at higher speeds. Just a guess. If you have different ways of playing the CD on the same drive (different software) you may want to see if there's a difference between them.
