Canon 5D, 180 F3.5 L macro, ISO 400, f8, 1/60th, tripod. Slight crop from top, otherwise full frame.
Conditions were good again this evening so headed back to Clattinger Farm nature reserve just north of Swindon. On Sunday evening I had a nearly but not quite encounter with a Marbled White so I was optimistic for another chance to photograph this particular butterfly. I never found a Marbled White so I had to be contented with more Meadow Brown shots, nice but not the sexiest butterfly on the planet.
Towards the end of the session I suddenly spotted this blue butterfly fluttering around so followed it until it settled and then managed to sneak upto it and get four shots before it flew off never to be seen again. Very awkward to approach, low down and hanging at a funny angle. No one told me you needed to be a contortionist when you buy a macro lens.....
If I had time I would have tried to get a bit more parallel to the butterfly but for my first shots of this species I am quite happy.
Very delicate looking shot.
The butterfly facing down the stem is maybe what's making the composition feel awkward, but everything else about the shot says quality
Well done on the common blue Sean, razor sharp and perfect stem ,I agree looks bit awkward facing down the stem..........be carefull Sean macro is very addictive
Now that you have discovered macro your partner will forget who you are unless it rains solidly for two weeks. Great shot, common blues always face down when resting so I don't mind the comp, works for me.
yes i like the composition too. diagonal compositions tend to add some 'edge' and tension to a shot. Is this macro a new toy for a good boy?? cracking sharpness.
