Well, I know a lot of you saw this image a week or so ago through my last post, but thought I'd give it a spotlight.
This is sunrise on July 3rd, from the outlet to Lake Marie, just down the west side of Snowy Range Pass. I had been wanting this shot for a number of years, and it was worth the wait this AM. Just be prepared for a brutal hike to get to this location before sunrise though! I'd say allow yourself AT LEAST 35 seconds to get from the parking lot to this spot!! DOH! Whew!!!
Patrick, the Snowy Range Pass area is about an hour west of Laramie, Wyoming. Topozone Map From Denver, its just three hours via I-25, then I-80 west from Cheyenne through Laramie, and Hwy 130 from there. Also, you can take Hwy 287 from Ft. Collins to Laramie for a little more scenic route. Check it out if you have a chance, very cool place!!

I love this picture! This spot is the "Maroon Bells" of the Snowies because it is so accessible and scenic, but I've yet to see a shot better than this one.
I've been up to the Snowies several times per week for the last month and it is spectacular right now! The columbines are out in force on the very scenic Lakes Trail. Brent, several of the snow-covered hillsides we hiked on have melted, revealing ponds and rocky streams that are lined with flowers. For example, the spot where this image was taken three weeks ago (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4682538) is now a lake. I'll upload a few recent digicam shots when I get the chance.
Right now is the best time of the year for a trip to the Snowy Range. If I can help anyone out with details (directions, hikes, etc.) let me know!
