Hi All

Canon 5D, 180 f3.5 L, ISO 400, f7.1, 1/250th, tripod, full frame.

Out again this evening and this time found a cooperative marbled white. Unfortunately not an A1 condition specimen, it has some wing damage, but it did pose for me on various perches and allow me lots of varying shots so I am not complaining.

Nice evening light again but this time the breeze was stronger and it made focussing a nightmare, hence I pushed up the ISO and shutter speed to try to ensure some sharp shots. I also used the servo focus most of the time and then pressed the shutter whenever there was a lull in the wind. It seemed to work and I nailed quite a few variations on this butterfly.

Picked this one out to post, background is the brown grass and hay in the distance. Not sure if it is ideal, certainly diffuse. It looks nice and serene, but in fact the butterfly was waving about all over the place on the end of this grass stem

cheers

Great comp and a fine image Sean, trying to find a nit... I think you could lose the OOF grass seed heads that are coming out of the top right corner.

Love the colours and comp on this one Sean. I don't mind the OOF seed heads but also can see why they might be a distraction for others. The background is fine also.

Fine shot Sean - I think the only way you could improve this is with a specimen in mint condition.

Interested in your experiences with the 180.

Nice complimentary colours, I see you're going to course a fellow UKNPNer to open his wallet not an easy thing for a Yorkshireman.

Wow. Superb.

I would complain to someone though about the damage to the butterfly.

Cheers

Hello Sean
Surely an artists dream? The grass and matching BG really add to the effectiveness of this image, very nice.
Best wishes

Hello Sean

Great Shot Sean and great light like you said the only thing that lets it down is its condition.

Beautiful shot, not mad on insect shots myself but...love this one. Its complimentary soft colours are a joy to the eye.
