Flying along, 'High Key' Gannet
Another try at some more 'artistic' images to 'dazzle' the judges with.
Shot taken last year at the wonderful trip with Guy Edwardes to Ireland.
How does this rendition come across to you?

20D, borrowed 500mm!, manual metering at 1/40 F/32, Iso 100, tripod.
Raw, Cs2 Camera Raw conversion.

Hello Paula
It certainly crosses the divide from phtotography into art, and very nicely too. I like the image, I think the pale colours make it work particularly well and that eye is just perfect.
Yes, very artistic, very nice indeed. It would look perfect on any wall.
Best wishes

Quite agree - very artistic

Great stuff Paula, mind you .. now you are using Nikon you'll be used to get blurry out of focus shots without having to do it intentionally won't you

Good one Paula,

The splashes of colour are just right and the motion and high Key effect work very well.

It works nicely, not many can create a painting in 1/40th of a sec.

Hi Paula

I really like this shot, very artistic and attractive. There are very few nature photographs that capture an artistic quality (without digital adjustment in PS) and you have managed it superbly here.

A great high key image, the sharp eye, the wing blur and soft tones all combine to make an eye catching image.

Very creative, technically excellent, I would enter this in as many competitions as you can, it is a winner for me.

One minor alteration I might suggest would be to add in some additional space on the right hand side, just a small amount to give that impression of the bird moving into space. At the moment the composition is a bit too central for my taste. A personal preference thing at the end of the day, still fine as is.

I think you did great here as with many of your Irish sea birds pictures.

I think this is beautiful Paula. The high key and blur works very well indeed.

Usually arty images don't work for me - this one does

Hi Paula, it's a very nice high key image with it's pastel colours - I would have loved it with a normal shutter-speed. But for me the blur just doesn't work - maybe if the blur didn't extend to the head. I don't get why blurry means artistic. Sorry if I'm being too straight-forward :wavey:
