I normally use 4Gb CF cards in my cameras, however, I have just bought a couple of 4Gb SD cards and used one for the first time yesterday in my 1DS2. On returning to the computer and putting the card in the card reader, non of the images were showing. I then put the card back in the camera, connected that to the computer, and downloaded the image using the canon software.
I have now put the card back in the camera and tried to format it, but the menu reads "unable to format". The card is not locked at the side slider.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks and Best wishes
Phil
I think there is a problem with the camera recognising the 4Gb SD cards and the card firmware. First thing to check is that you're running the latest firmware on the camera. If you are, then I think you might be stuck until Canon release a firmware update...
Thanks for all the help.guys. I updated my firmware, but, as suspected , it still cannot be recognised.
Surely it can't be such a big deal for camera companies to keep up to date with bigger cards, after all, it is the likes of canon who are making much bigger files to be stored in the first place??!!
Best wishes

Chuck Westfall (Canon USA interface to the great unwashed) recently confirmed on another forum that the Firmware update to use 4gb is penned in for development, but no confirmed release date yet. 2GB SD card remains the max at present for the 1DsII

Hi Philip,
The Standard for SD cards, when originally written only allowed for a max 1GB...
This was raised to 2GB in 2004, I think...
The 4GD cards have only recently been ratified ( the new standard being called SDHC, SD High Capacity) and most devices on the market today will not read them, in fact Sandisk have just given us prices for their version of the 4GB SD card and they have included a new reader with it so that you can use it on a computer...
Be aware that there are some manufacturers making 4GB SD cards that are not compliant to the new SDHC standard (also called SDA 2.00)...
Sandisk have a pdf file that you can read by looking at the following page...

Hope this helps
