Went out to Pawnee Buttes last night. Ended up being a really crappy sunset and the clouds blocked all the good light, but on the other side it put up a hell of a lightning storm. The lightning went from being about 20 - 30 miles away to about 2 miles away in about 5 mins time. Decided to get the heck out of there and a bolt hit about 200 yards from us. Close enough that I saw and heard the thunder at the same time. Made it to the highway and saw a tornado as we raced away. Ended up being a very eventfull evening. Well here a couple of pictures from the storm. Enjoy.
No, I didn't get any pictures of the tornado. Was actually more worried about the lightning then the tornado. We were in a softtop Jeep, not much protecting there. I grew up in western Kansas I'm used to them damn things. We were heading southwest and the tornado was heading southeast and you couldn't see it very well. It was dark by then and you could only see it when the lightning lighted up the sky.
As far as the exposure.
Nikon D200
F/8 focused to infinity
First one I believe was 30 sec and the second was little over two mins.
Thanks

I'd trade these for a sunset any day. Gorgeous with the multiple bolts and great contrast.
